Violence against women and girls: share your story survey

Overview

Anyone aged 18 and over living in Jersey can take part in this 3 question survey, regardless of your gender.

This survey is for people who want to share their experience of violence against women and girls, whatever their experiences are. You don’t have to be a victim or survivor. The survey is anonymous.

This Call for Evidence is not monitored daily and is not a place to report crime. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999.

To report a safeguarding concern for a child or young person, contact the Children and Families Hub. To report a safeguarding concern for an adult, contact Single Point of Referral.

What does ‘Violence against women and girls’ mean?

Violence against women and girls is any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life.

Violence against women and girls refers to acts of violence or abuse that disproportionately affect women and girls. Although women and girls are mostly affected, men and boys can also be victims of this type of violence. Lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender people can also be victims of this type of violence often due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.

About the survey

Thank you for your interest in this survey.

A taskforce has been set up to drive progress in reducing violence against women and girls in Jersey. Our role is to take action to understand more about these types of crimes and behaviours in our Island. Our research will tell the Government how to shape a strategy to tackle violence against women and girls. We want you to be a part of that, by having your say.

Sharing your story can be empowering. This gives you an opportunity to share your story and make your own recommendations for reform.

The information you share will help inform our work on preventing and reducing violence against women and girls. It will also be used to improve support for victims and survivors.

Survey questions

This survey is for people who have experience of violence against women and girls. It consists of 3 questions. The questions:

explore your experience
the impact of your experience
how you think violence against women and girls can be addressed in Jersey.

Please tell us anything you feel comfortable writing about, you do not need to tell us about your experience of violence. You might want to write about your reporting experience, accessing support or how you were treated by the criminal justice system.

Your information

All responses to the questions will be anonymous. We do not ask for your name or contact details at any point. Please do not identify any person in your answers. All questions are optional. If you do not wish to answer any of the questions move onto the next question or end the survey.

We do ask you about your ethnicity and gender. This is so we can understand how different groups are affected by violence against women and girls. You do not have to provide this information if you do not want to.

We may publish a report of the findings from the Share Your Story submissions, but we will not publish any information that may identify you or another person.

We understand that answering the questions in this survey may be upsetting. Information on support services and how to contact them is at the end of the survey.

When you finish the survey a unique response ID number will appear on your screen. If you decide you do not want us to use the information you submitted, email VAWGJersey@gov.je You will need to quote the response ID number so we can delete your data.
